1. How to apply for TOEFL test?

TOEFL test can be applied online, by phone, and by mail. In case a person wants to register in person, he/she has to apply at a TOEFL iBT Test Resource Center. When TOEFL registration is done in person at a resource center, local currencies are accepted and registration vouchers are provided after the registration.

2. Who accepts TOEFL scores?

TOEFL scores are accepted by more than 8,000 universities and colleges in more than 110 countries. TOEFL is a gateway to study in native English speaking countries.

3. What is the registration fee for an internet based (iBT) and paper based (PBT) TOEFL?

Registration fee for internet based TOEFL varies depending on the test center. For iBT the fee ranges from US$150 to US$225. When it comes to PBT there is a standard application fee of US$ 160.

4. Am I allowed to take notes during the test?

Yes, candidates are allowed to take down notes but they cannot carry those notes with them. For security reasons the notes which are made during the test are destroyed.

5. Can I bring my personal belongings to the test center?

No personal belongings are allowed in a test site. All you need to have is only valid identification proof. Electronic items like PDA, cell phones, or photographic devices are strictly prohibited.

6. What are the ID documents I should carry with me to the test center?

A valid ID proof, with a clear and recent photograph and signature is required at the test center. And along with the ID registration confirmation should also be provided, which contains the registration number.

7. What are the scores for internet based test and how long does the test take place?

The total scores for TOEFL is 120 which is divided among the four sections of the test as:

Reading: 0-30

Listening: 0-30

Speaking: 0-30

Writing: 0-30

The test has to be completed within 4.5 hours. 

8. What is the validity of TOEFL scores and how often is the internet based test conducted?

TOEFL scores are valid for two years and the internet based test is conducted around 30 to 40 times in a year.

9. How many times can I retake TOEFL test and which score will be considered?

You can retake TOEFL test as many times as possible because score requirements vary from one educational institution to another.

10. When can I order an additional score card and how much would it cost?

The additional score cards can be ordered only two weeks after the test date. There is a charge of US $ 17 applicable per score card. The additional score reports are posted from four to seven days after the request and payment are received.

13. When can I rescore my speaking or writing section and how much does it cost?

Rescoring can be done up to 3 months after the first test date. This can be done only for speaking and writing section. There is a charge of US $ 60 to rescore per section (speaking or writing). In case you want to rescore both the sections you will be charged about US$120.

14. How early should I arrive at the test center?

You should arrive 30 minutes early at the test center with a valid ID proof which contains your clear photograph and signature.

15. What is the time duration to register for TOEFL in advance?

It is always advisable to register three to four months in advance to take up the TOEFL test because that much time is sufficient to prepare for TOEFL.
