Unpaid Internship
  • Applicant doesn’t have to pay anything other than the mandatory application fees of AUD $500
  • If the applicant is a recent graduate (graduated within previous 12 months), the internship can last for a maximum period of 3 months
  • If the applicant is a current student, the internship can last for a maximum period of 6 months
 
Paid Internship
  • Applicant is required to pay a certain fees depending on the duration of the internship, along with the application fees of AUD $500
  • The professional internship can last from a minimum period of 6 weeks to maximum period of 6 months
  • The hospitality internship can last from a minimum of 6 months to maximum period of 1 year
  • Applicants with a valid working holiday visa can apply for internship for up to 6 months

Eligibility Criteria
  • To be eligible for the internship program in Australia, the applicant must be of minimum 18 years to 30 years of age.
  • The applicant must possess academic and professional qualifications or should be pursuing a field directly related to the field of internship.
  • The applicant must be recent graduate with not more than 2 years of completion of the course.
  • The applicant must possess a 416 Special Program Visa or a 417 Working Holiday Visa.
  • The applicant must possess upper intermediate to advanced English language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Clearing IELTS exam is a must with good scores.
 
Documents Required
The applicant must hold and be ready to submit/present the primary, secondary, and visa related documents like:
  • Completed Application Form
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae, including color photo (in Word)
  • Letter of Internship Objectives
  • Academic transcripts (in English)
  • AUD $ 500 application fee receipt
  • Evidence of current medical, accident, travel and personal liability insurance
  • Color copy of passport
  • Passport size color photograph
  • Evidence of financial support –  around AUD $1500 per month
 
Application Procedure
  • The applicants are first required to fill an application form to confirm if they are eligible for the internship program or not. The applicants who are eligible will be sent an application form to apply for the internship.
  • The applicants then need to fill up the application form and return it to the respective placement agency with all the supported documents and the application fee of AUD $ 500.
  • After the placement agency has evaluated the application form and all the documents, the applicants will be called in for a pre-screening interview. And then after the interview is done with, the placement agency will negotiate with the internship details.
  • Thereafter, the applicants will be required to go through an interview with the organization finalized by the placement agency. Confirmation of the internship will be done through a formal training agreement proceeded by payment of fees.
  • After the confirmation, the placement agency will make arrangements with the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship for the visa. Applicants can also make alternate arrangements on their own by applying for working visa or working holiday visa.
  • After the visa has been acquired, the applicants need to finalize their arrival dates to the placement agency. An orientation will be provided to the applicants once they land in Australia. And once the applicants begin with their internship, the placement agency will be asking for feedback and provide the applicants with any support needed.
  • Applicants are advised to apply four to six months before they want to start with the internship program as this period would give the placement agencies time to arrange for the whole procedure.
 
Program Fees
A range of fees has been provided below that based on the fact that the fees will vary according to the placement provider and the duration of the internship.
 
For Professional Internship
Up to 6 weeks: AUD $ 1,000 to 1,200
From 7 to 12 weeks: AUD $ 1,200 to 1,500
From 13 to 20 weeks: AUD $ 1,500 to 1,800
From 21 to weeks: AUD $ 1,800 to 2,200
 
For Hospitality Internship
Up to 26 weeks: AUD $ 2,600 to 3,000
Up to 38 weeks: AUD $ 3,000 to 3,400
Up to 52 weeks: AUD $ 3,400 to 3,800
 
Apart from the above fees, applicants will also have to pay some more fees for the following things
  • Mandatory Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) online course fee of AUD $ 110
  • Online safety training fee of AUD $ 70
  • 416 visa administration fees of AUD $ 300 to 500
  • 416 visa application fees of AUD $ 250 to 300 (416 is a special program visa approved by the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship)
 
In addition to this, some placement agencies also provide the applicants with accommodation facilities, travel and health insurance, and flight discounts; fees for which will also have to be paid to the respective placement agency. However, it’s not a mandatory condition; applicants can arrange for accommodation and insurance on their own.
