Student Visa for Canada

Obtain Study Permit Forms
You will first have to get a study permit or student visa form from the Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or Canadian Education Centre, in your country of origin. Alternatively, you can also download the application form from the internet. The completed application form, along with all required documents, must be submitted to the immigration section of the concerned office, from where you brought the form. The documents you present while applying should either be original or Xerox copies notarized and witnessed by a notary public, a magistrate, or the Canadian Immigration Officer, and accompanied by the duplicate copies.
Who Requires a Visa?
Certain criteria have been set up the Government of Canada for students who do not require a student visa to study in Canada. These conditions are listed below.

Citizens of Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Botswana, Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel (National Passport holders only), Italy, Japan, Korea (Republic of), Latvia (Republic of), Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Slovenia, Switzerland, United States, and Western Samoa do not require a student visa for education in Canada.

Persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who are in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence.

British citizens and British overseas citizens who are re-admissible to the United Kingdom.

Citizens of British dependent territories who derive their citizenship through birth, descent, registration or naturalization in one of the British dependent territories of Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Pitcairn, St. Helena or the Turks, and Caicos Islands.

Persons holding a British national (overseas) passport issued by the Government of the United Kingdom to persons born, naturalized or registered in Hong Kong.

Persons holding a valid and subsisting Special Administrative Region passport issued by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.

Persons holding passports or travel documents issued by the Holy See.
Necessary Documentations
Applicants are required to produce several documents, along with the application form, in order to obtain student visa for Canada. Any missing documentation can delay the approval process of receiving Canadian student visa. The following are the documents required at the time of applying for student visa.

Proof of Identity: A valid travel document, such as a passport, for you and each accompanying family member (valid at least for one year from the proposed date of entry into Canada) should be produced. However, citizens and permanent residents of the United States, St. Pierre and Miquelon, and Greenland do not require passports for entry into Canada, though they have to present proof of status and citizenship, such as a national identity card or an alien registration card.

Proof of Acceptance: If you intend to attend an educational institution in Canada, the respective institute must complete and send you a letter of acceptance, duly signed by the official representative. Include the original letter with the study permit application. The letter should include the following details:

Proof of Financial Support: You have to prove that you can support your tuition and living costs in Canada. For this, you can present any of the following statements:

Bank statements for the past four months

Canadian bank account in your name

Bank draft in convertible money

Proof of payment of tuition and accommodation fees

Proof of Custodianship: In case the student is under 18 years of age, a notarized statement signed by the parents or guardian in the country of origin and a notarized statement signed by the guardian in Canada stating that sufficient preparations have been made, has to be presented.

Medical Examination: If the stay in Canada is longer than six months, the applicant has to undergo a medical exam and qualify with far above the ground health risks. Since the procedure will take a few weeks, it is advised to go for it well before time.
